Carlos Arias (CEO)
Mr. Arias is the manager and a partner of the company.
BSc. Chemical Engineer at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (1982). Likewise, he finished an MBA (1984-1987) at the Universidad del Norte (Barranquilla, Colombia) and in 2003, a diploma in International Business Management at the Sergio Arboleda University (Bogota, Colombia). In 2009, he enrolled in the Master of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the University Rovira i Virgili (Spain).
He began his career as a process engineer in Monómeros Colombo Venezolanos S.A. (a petrochemical complex for the production of caprolactam and compound fertilizers) in Barranquilla, Colombia. Subsequently, he formed the Group for the Development of New Projects and Products at the same company and was involved in all stages of development (from the identification of new products or initial ideas, to the production and marketing). He also led projects to produce potassium nitrate via constant ion exchange (1.8 million U.S. $ investment and a capacity of 6,000 TMA), production of calcium phosphate for animal feed through a technology imported from Japan and built a 35,000 TMA -plant (14.7 million U.S. $ investment). Mr. Arias also has an extensive management experience of over 20 years in different industries, trades and services in Colombia.
Mr. Carlos Arias has a representative, design, and business strategy and development role in IMICROQ.
Dr. Sergio Martínez Montequín (Production)
Since completing his Bachelor Degree in Chemistry at the University of Oviedo (Spain), Sergio has been involved in several R+D projects as well as in technology transfers. His first taste of R+D was as a research fellow working with immunosensors with electrochemical detection. Later, he obtained his Ph.D. in Electrochemistry at the University of Southampton with a thesis focused on performance improvement of reference electrodes in commercial glucose screen printed sensors sponsored by MediSense (now Abbott Laboratories, UK). Later, he worked on practical aspects of technology transfer at Nanotecture (UK), developing and commercially exploiting new nanoporous electrodeposited materials for batteries and sensor applications. Also, he had worked in the food sector at R+D+i Department of Central Lechera Asturiana (Spain), carrying out pilot plant and production scale trials of new products.
He is currently Manufacturing Director at iMiCROQ, but still deals with R+D+i since he is in charge of the development of the screen printed microsystems.
Dr. Katia Uliaque Cugat (Microbiology & Molecular Biology)
BSc. Biology, Agri-Food and Biotechnology speciality (University of Barcelona, 1998) and Biochemistry (University Rovira i Virgili, 2000). Immediately, she joined the Research Unit of Lipids and Atherosclerosis at the same University, where she undertook her doctorate under the supervision of Prof. Med. Rosa Solà Alberich. Her thesis was based on the implementation of kinetics using stable isotopes to study in vivo in humans the effect of various diets on lipid metabolism. This thesis was done in collaboration with Prof. Muriel Caslake and Prof. Chris Packard, University of Glasgow (UK). From 2007-2009, Dr. Uliaque was a Postdoc at this same University, as responsible for a project funded by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and TMRI Scotland to implement new biochemical and biophysical techniques for identification of cholesterol metabolism biomarkers. In addition, Dr. Uliaque completed a postgrade in Genomics, Proteomics and Bioinformatics (University of Barcelona, 2006) and worked as a scientific consultant at Gendiag S.L. and as a student in practice at Uriach S.A..
As part of the R+D+i team of IMICROQ, Dr. Uliaque is responsible for the area of Microbiology and Molecular Biology.
Dr. Pablo Lozano Sánchez (R+D+i)
PhD in Electrochemistry.
Dr. Lozano studied Chemistry at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM, Spain), and finished his degree at the University of Newcastle (UK), and obtained his degree in Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry at the University of North Umbria (UK). Afterwards, he obtained his Ph.D. in Electrochemistry at the School of Chemistry, University of Reading (UK) under the supervision of Dr. J.M. Elliott. His thesis was developed in the field of manufacturing, characterization and analytical applications of electrodes meso/nano porous. After obtaining his Ph.D., he became a Research Associate of the same University of Reading, continuing his research on nanostructured electrodes and their catalytic and electroanalytical properties.
From 2005 to 2012, Dr. Lozano has been Project Manager of IP projects from the European Union and has been working in the group DINAMIC in the areas of fuel biocells, electrochemical immunosensors and electrochemical methods for detection of pathogens.
Dr. Lozano is partner of the Company and since 2012, as part of the R+D+i team of iMICROQ, is responsible of the R+D+i department.
Diego Bejarano Nosas (Quality)
He finished his degree in Chemical Engineering at the University Rovira i Virgili, where he also finished a postgrade in Environmental Engineering. Later, he enrolled in the Master in Nanosciences and Nanotechnology at the same University, working in the field of functional screen printed microsystems under the supervision of Dr. Katakis.
From 2002 to 2013 has been the Production Director of the DINAMIC Centre at URV (now part of ATIC) and has actively been working on the design of scientific studies and improvements in biogas plants, and biofuels microfabrication techniques.
Mr. Bejarano is partner of the Company and since 2013, as part of the Quality Department of iMICROQ, is responsible of the Quality Department and participates in the Production Department.
